I was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to a pair of adventurous, educated, caring, humble, and brave parents. Samuel and Sara Lynn Standard were very much in love, and they shared that affection with my brother, Samuel Standard, and I. My childhood was the traditional Midwest upbringing filled with love, family, sports and the arts. My paternal grandmother showered me, her only granddaughter with fashion/luxury gifts from fifth grade until now, she purchased my first
Vogue magazine when I was 12, that was the beginning of my life-long love affair with fashion. When I transferred into the Memphis Chapter of the Links, I’d just recently retired from the United States Army and earned my second master’s degree from, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). I came to Memphis due to a position at Williams Sonoma’s Regional Headquarters, as a supply chain manager working with global suppers. I then became a statistic, I left my job at Williams Sonoma. I attended a prestigious footwear development and design school in Milan, Italy for almost one year. Following that, I had come to a pivot, in the road of my life and career, I had an interview with Amazon Corporate or pursue my organic passion in luxury footwear. I decided to bet on myself!
My logic, I had 20 years of intense practical military leadership, Bachelor of Science Degree, and two Masters of Arts Degrees, plus a certificate from a world-renowned footwear design school and the connections that brought. For the first time in my life, I decided to bet on me and to embark on curating my designer Italian shoe line, NORIE Shoe Company.
No story is perfect, and neither is mine. I just emphasize the many positives: After High School, I enrolled in the United States Army and work my way up to the rank of Field Grade Officer-- during that time-- I graduated from Hampton University, pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha, earned a Master’s Degree from University of Kansas and settled in New York City by the time I divorced my wall street executive husband, I had accomplished all these things probably because I had a knack for logistics – my career spanning many specialized deployments, VIP missions, Special Operations missions around the world. When, I look back at my life I am often in awe.
I am a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and I am a member of The Links Incorporated. I am not a authorized vendor to either organization.
